於一九九三年獲德意志學術交流中心及臺灣教育部獎學金，初次自德國遠赴臺灣修習中文。從此我的生活便遊走在法蘭克福與臺北之間。然在思想上，與德語哲學的連綫從未中斷。切入中國文化的方式，亦於法蘭克福學派批判理論的影響下逐漸形成，尤其阿多諾(Theodor W. Adorno)的著作提供了重要啟發，且催生對中國文人美學的濃厚喜好，以及對中國思想現代化過程的關注。這樣的跨文化經歷，讓我很快地意識到批判理論的資源有所不足。因此，在撰寫關於儒家修身觀的碩士論文時，便容納了當代法國思想，特別是傅柯(Michel Foucault)對歐洲古典修養哲學的重新開展。自此逐漸深入歐洲哲學、西方漢學、漢語哲學及文人文化的跨文化漩渦。多年來投入「當代修養哲學」、「平淡美學」、「批判理論的跨文化轉向」、「跨文化莊子學」、「中國混雜現代化」、「海德格、道家與政治」、「弔詭思想」等議題的研究。並於2011年開始在德國推展東西跨文化哲學的相關課程。

對我而言，生活與工作緊密相連，尋常實踐「哲學作為一種生活方式」。第一次試著模擬山水畫實現文人生活，是在一個希臘小島的松樹下。一連幾個星期以漢英字典及《老子》的三本德文譯本來重譯整部原著。時至今日，住家所在為台北近郊山區，我亦經常在溪流中的一方巨石上沈思冥想，以野趣盎然的自然景色爲不可或缺的工作場境。哲學於我，是一門交織研究與修養的獨特學問。
