資料庫簡介：
19世紀30年代前，英國對華貿易由東印度公司壟斷，其駐澳門與廣州人員在嚴格的「廣州制度」下營運。1827年 Canton Register創刊，揭開中國沿海英文新聞業的序幕。1842 年《南京條約》簽訂後，香港被割讓，多處通商口岸相繼開放，英文報刊隨英國官員、商人與傳教士進入香港、上海、天津、北京等城市。此這段時期的報刊雖多由英資經營，但 1920 年代後，中國本土企業家、政治精英及國共兩黨亦透過英文媒體（如The Voice of China）發聲。這些文獻記錄了從兩次鴉片戰爭、太平天國、辛亥革命到抗日戰爭及國共內戰等重大歷史轉折。
